what can I expect?
Didn’t have time for breakfast? We got you. Gather in The Commons to enjoy complimentary donuts and refreshments*, have a chat, or let your kids burn off some energy in the indoor playground (open before and after worship starting at 10:15a). Stop by our Connects.Life Center to find out about our programs and where you might like to plugin. Our volunteers are here to serve. We’d love to answer any questions you may have— just ask!
Covenant is a place where you can easily get to know others and be on a first-name basis with the pastors (Jason, Zach, and Dario, by the way.) Borrowing from Goldilocks, Covenant is “just right”—we’re small enough to know each other by name, yet big enough that it won’t feel awkward.
NOTE: As part of our COVID Safe-Return Plan, we are currently phasing in full coffee service beginning May 2.
How long is a Covenant Methodist Church service?
In total, Covenant Methodist Church services run a little over an hour in length. The worship guides for all services are available online here each week.
What’s the culture like at Covenant Methodist Church?
Sundays at Covenant are friendly, casual, and relaxed. Come as you are and expect to feel welcomed into the family.
What should I wear?
Dress at Covenant is casual — business casual, jeans, shorts — all fit in.
What's the music like?
Our music is selected to enhance each week’s scripture-focused worship experience. Song lyrics are projected onto the screens so you can sing along and/or engage with worship however you feel most comfortable.
The music and service order will differ depending on the service you attend, however, you can expect a mix of praise songs, softer contemplative melodies, and adapted hymns. All services are led by a full band and worship leader.
How about the preaching?
Each week, our pastors bring forth a gospel-centered message that is relevant to our lives today while teaching us the content and context of the scriptures.
What Christian traditions do you incorporate into worship?
Holy Communion weekly in Classic Worship and Spanish Worship, and monthly (on the first Sunday of the month) in Current Worship. Everyone is invited to come forward to receive the bread and wine (grape juice) as a remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice for us. This table is not the United Methodist or Covenant’s table. This is the Lord’s table, and all are welcome, including children. Gluten-free Communion is always available.
We celebrate the sacrament of baptism for both infants and adults. Those being baptized may choose to be emersed in the baptismal pool or sprinkled from the font. If you want to know more about Baptism at Covenant, or would like to schedule a baptism click here.
Traditional United Methodist liturgy is used for both sacraments.
In addition to these sacraments, we regularly incorporate The Lord’s Prayer, Apostle’s Creed, and Profession of Faith. If the ancient traditions of the faith appeal to you, 9a Classic Worship may be a good fit.
What changes have you made due to COVID?
You and your family’s health is important to us. Many of our ministries are being offered through different modes (in the building, online, or outside.) to ensure that everyone can find space to connect and worship.
We are currently offering 2 different worship environments with regard to mitigation. To view the details of our Safe-Return Plan and test-drive it for yourself with a quick 2-minute video tour CLICK HERE.
What about my kids?
COVkids is offered every Sunday service for kids ages 6 weeks through Grade 5.
Covenant loves kids. We believe that kids should have a blast at church and learn about their faith every single week—and at COVkids, we make this a priority.
The other thing we make a priority is your children’s safety. Because of that, we have a detailed check-in process for our COVkids program the first time that you visit. You’ll want to leave yourself an extra ten minutes to get signed in or you can PRE-REGISTER to save time Sunday morning.
Nursery care is available for infants (6-weeks) through preschool.
Elementary-aged kids begin worship with their families* and are dismissed during the service to learn about God’s word at their own speed. They return for the closing of worship.
*If you prefer, your child is also welcome to remain with you in worship. If you need some quiet space with your child during worship, feel free to use the Cry Room. (Exit the sanctuary and turn right.)
Youth (6th grade and older) worship with the adults. We feel it’s important for youth to grow to understand how worship “works” and how they fit into the greater church community. The Summit, our youth ministry program, offers Jr. high and high schoolers time to meet together and grow in their faith.
Do you have small groups?
Yes! Being a church involves more than weekly worship attendance. We are a body of believers that live life together by caring for one another, sharing our ups and downs, and seeking to grow into the likeness of Christ through the power of God’s Word. Like the early church, we need to spend more than an hour on Sundays together. We need to have people with whom we can be honest and real—a small group of people meeting regularly to share life with us. Learn more about our Connection Groups.
